11.8x11.8 in ~ Painting, Watercolor, Embroidery
Early March is the period when this elusive flower comes into its own. The quince is of Japanese origin, therefore I wanted to give the composition an unusual layout with most of the detailing on the left hand side and then gently flowing into free space on the right and the surprise of a butterfly about to land on the flowers.
The play of light is astounding, the rich red blossoms come out three dimension and when the light is focussed on the embroidery, more detail and luminosity occurs to the viewer.
The fluid and light water colour wash is a perfect marriage with the densly embroidered flowers. A lovely ensemble to charm any room.
